About Churchill Falls

Churchill Falls (population ~650) is a planned community built in the late 1960s to support the Churchill Falls Generating Station, operated by Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation, a subsidiary of Nalcor Energy. The town is self-contained with housing, a school, recreation facilities, and basic services — all managed by the corporation.

Key Facts

The Land & Its People

The Churchill Falls area lies within the traditional territory of the Innu people, who have travelled and lived on these lands for thousands of years. The Innu name for the falls — Manitu-utshu (Spirit Mountain) — reflects the deep cultural significance of this landscape. Understanding and respecting this heritage is part of living and working in the region.

Real Estate in Churchill Falls

Churchill Falls is unique in that most housing is company-owned. Private real estate transactions are rare but do occur. If you're relocating for work at the generating station or have questions about the limited private market, Karen & Roberta can help you understand your options.

Company Housing

Most residents are housed by the corporation. Homes are allocated based on position and family size. If you're being hired by Nalcor, your employer will typically arrange accommodation.

Private Market

A small number of privately owned properties do exist. When they come to market, they tend to sell quickly due to the limited supply. Contact us to be notified of any listings.

Nearby Options

Some Churchill Falls workers choose to live in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and commute or work rotational schedules. This opens up a wider range of housing options.
